When my children enter school I do not feel as though I have sent them off to b e looked after by strangers, I feel a sense of safety knowing that I send them somewhere teachers and staff look after them and educate them as if they were their own children. Despite the challenges that Arizona faced as a whole and the pandemic I have found Calibre to be a welcoming school where the staff take an active interest in my children’s academic progress and overall well being. I found Calibre, enrolled and he’s now entering 8th grade with siblings entering 5th and 1st. When my son was entering Kinder I had concerns about our local school district so I opted to explore charters. They are in uniforms but they can wear jeans & any leggings under their skirts if they would like so there are still ways for kids to express themselves even in uniforms. They also offer after school extracurricular activities, like sports & choir. We have rarely had any issues with teacher communication, most respond to emails the same day depending on the time. On top of that, they do many projects which foster creativity every year. They also started pro ject based learning a few years ago, which means the students give 3-4 presentations on different subjects every year, so, on top of the learning from doing the projects themselves, by the time they go to high school public speaking won’t be an issue. They also offer a full range of specials, like music, PE, technology, & multiple different art classes. They have free tutoring for students in need before school & smaller group learning for certain subjects during the school day. We originally started there for the full day kindergarten but there are many other things this school offers. At least with a public school you know who’s teaching your children and it’s not the janitor.“A” rated school is a gimmick. We have one son who has already graduated from Calibre & a daughter who has gone there since kinder & is going into 6th grade this year. Most of the public schools even offer advanced classes for K-8 now so definitely consider that. There’s definitely better schools out there. If a teacher is out for the day or for an extended period your child will end up with some random uncertified Joe “teaching” the class because they don’t have adequate teaching staff to cover absences and aren’t part of a larger district of schools.Don’t fall into the lip service you get with a tour. They won’t even communicate it until you have a conference so you’re just left in the dark thinking this school is setting your child up for success. You may be thinking of getting your kid in a charter school so they learn more faster, but this isn’t that school. If you learn your child is slipping behind on a subject, they don’t offer any assistance to ensure the success of that child. But the principals and the way they run this school is atrocious.Don’t expect your child to get anything they need out of this school. Always unorganized, always unsure of things, and never had actual answers. The front office staff is wonderful and super helpful. This school extremely disconnected from the needs of the students.I can’t speak for all the teachers but my child’s teacher was awful. Definitely read the negative reviews from other parents. I regret enrolling my child at this school. This is absolutely the worst school experience I’ve ever had to deal with.
